Welcome to Call South West

CALL is a Registered Charity which provides help to people of all ages who can not communicate by speaking. We do this by working closely with speech therapists who advise us which items of communication aids would benefit out client. These aids, which are often known as AAC equipment (Augmentative alternative equipment), are then bought by the charity and given to the client.

If you think that you or the person who has the communication problem fits in with the following criteria, then please contact us.

Call South West

Bethany (7) lives in Plymouth. She lost her speech after 2 tumours. She learnt to use an iPad with special software at school to help her to make herself understood. After being approached by her speech therapist CALL bought her a mini iPad with the software so that she could talk to her family at home. Bethany has recently joined the Brownies and with the strong protective cover CALL has provided, is able to take the iPad with her and talk with the other members of the pack.

About Call South West

Call South West is a small, Plymouth based charity, registered with the Charity Commision, which has been in existence for over 30 years. During that time we have helped more than 100 client by providing them with items of AAC. All of our trustees and helpers are voluntary and unpaid which keeps our administrative costs to a minimum. We receive no government grants and all our funds come from either our own fundraising or from donations from our supporters.

What we do

When a carer/parent of a person who has communication difficulties contacts us, we initially try to offer help and support to that person and also advise them to see a speech therapist. This can be either a NHS or private therapist, but either will be able to offer a professional assessment of the client and to give advice about the best possible help for their client. If no statutory funding is available, then Call will be approached to consider purchasing the equipment.

These items of communication equipment will then be given to the client via their speech therapist, who will be responsible for making sure that the client can effectively use their new equipment.

For practical reasons, we can only help people living in the Plymouth and the surrounding area.
